Questions From members regarding the overall discernment process:

1. Don’t we own our own buildings?
No – we do not.  From the foundation of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1784, and continuing in the United Methodist Church formed in 1968, each congregation holds their property “in trust” for the global UMC.

2. If we disaffiliate from the UMC – do we have to affiliate with the GMC.   No – if a decision is made to disaffiliate from the UMC, then we will explore what, if any, denomination we are led to affiliate with.

3. Will churches who affiliate with the GMC own their own property?
Yes – they will.
