Good Samaritan Food Pantry

The Good Samaritan food pantry distributes to families twice a month. Families are permitted to pick which day is more convenient for them. We are open the first and third Friday of each month, unless a holiday requires us to move to a different day. We have about 70 families currently using our services from the communities of Port Vue, Liberty and Lincoln. People interested in using the pantry must provide proof of residence and sign a document of self declaration that they are able to use our services.

We offer a shop through service where the folks can pick basic grocery items from the shelves. The amount they receive depends on their family size. Each family is then given dairy items, 3 meat items (1beef, 1 chicken and 1 poultry), bread (when available) 3 health and beauty items, a bag of free items from the government (including juice, canned meat, pasta, pasta sauce, and other assorted items), and finally a bag of goodies. We often receive free or donated items that we also offer to our clients when they come– including clothing, school supplies, and more.

The food pantry is funded through donations from our congregation, community organizations, private donors and grants through the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Each year after our annual flea market, the garage is opened to the families to take any items they want for free as an additional ministry to our community.  We have been extremely blessed as a church to be able to continue to serving the Lord in this ministry all these years and look forward to doing so for many years to come.
